KIEV (UrduPoint News / Sputnik – October 27, 2021) Kiev is appalled by the findings of the German Ministry of the Economy claiming that the certification of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline does not pose a threat to gas supplies to EU countries Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba said on Wednesday.

On Tuesday, the German ministry announced that it had completed the security of supply analysis as part of the certification process and submitted it to the German Federal Network Agency. The ministry determined that the certification would not jeopardize the security of gas supplies to Germany and the EU. Naftogaz of Ukraine said the official conclusion was provided without discussing the matter with Kiev.

“We are upset, Naftogaz has already expressed his position on the subject. We will communicate our position to the German partners and ask and work with them so that decisions on Nord Stream 2 are not made in a rush, without careful analysis and study, “Kuleba said in a briefing.

Kiev will continue its efforts to resist the commissioning of the gas pipeline, added the minister.

Ukraine, which currently has a gas transit deal with Russia, has opposed the pipeline, fearing revenue losses after it goes into service, and says the pipeline threatens the energy security of Ukraine and Europe. Moscow, however, has repeatedly stated that it will continue to rely on Ukraine’s transport capacities to pump gas to Europe in the years to come despite the construction of additional pipelines.

Last month, Russian gas giant Gazprom announced that the Nord Stream 2 pipeline was completed.
